My heart still there where my body cannot return more” with this beautiful words, John Forbes, pioneer of the route described this famous ski traverse on the Alps
It was first done as a ski trip in 1911 by a group of guides from Chamonix and it very soon after that became a classic “must do” for any lover of ski mountaineering.
During six days, the route links Chamonix with Zermatt with the commodities of great huts and excellent food. We will climb around 1000 vertical meters every day, covering distances that are suitable for a ski mountaineering person in good shape, with good technique. Previous experience in skiing in white out conditions is needed.
A range of different options are available according to conditions and time permitted to do the route.
Ascent to Argentiere hut. Night at the hut.
Crossing towards Switzerland and descending to Val d’Arpette. Overnight in Champex.
From Verbier ski area take the lift up and climb to Rosablanche, descend to Prafleuri hut. Overnight in the hut.
Follow the Dix lake towards the Dix hut. Overnight stay at the hut.
Climb up to Pigne d’Arolla and descend towards Vignette’s hut. Overnight at the hut.
Climb via Col de l’Evêque, Col du Mont Brulé and Col de Valpelline towards Zermatt. Transfer to Chamonix.

Early start. Col de Pason-Col sup de Tour- Trient hut.
Descent to Champex. Transfer Verbier. Lift and climb to Roseblanche. Descend towards Prafleuri hut.
From Prafleuri to Cabane de Dix.
Cabane de Dix- Pigne d’Arolla – Vignettes hut.
Vignettes to Bertol hut.
Bertol via Tête Blanche down to Zermatt. Transfert to Chamonix.
