The Monte Rosa massif is one of the largest and most impressive ski touring areas in the Alps. Located on the border between Italy and Switzerland, it offers vast glaciated terrain, numerous 4,000-metre peaks and long, elegant ski descents in a true high-mountain environment.
Ski touring in Monte Rosa is particularly well suited to multi-day alpine programs. The terrain allows for progressive ascents, classic glacier travel and overnight stays in high-altitude huts, creating a good balance between physical challenge and comfort. Thanks to the altitude and scale of the massif, it is an ideal destination for strong ski tourers looking to gain experience at high elevation without necessarily facing extreme technical difficulty on every route.
With Chamonix Vertical, we offer programs ranging from 2 to 7 days, depending on your availability, objectives and level. From the Monte Rosa hut, as well as from other huts in the area, there is access to a wide range of skiable summits. Depending on conditions and the group’s level, ascents on skis may include peaks such as Nordend (4,609 m), Dufourspitze (4,634 m), Zumsteinspitze (4,563 m), Signalkuppe / Punta Gnifetti (4,554 m), Parrotspitze (4,432 m), Ludwigshöhe (4,342 m), as well as classic objectives like Castor (4,228 m), Pollux (4,092 m) and several summits of the Breithorn range.
Programs can be fully adapted to the skiing and mountaineering level of the participants. We propose everything from itineraries with limited technical difficulty, ideal for gaining experience on glaciers and at altitude, to more committing and technically demanding ascents, such as the Nordend or the Dufourspitze, which require strong ski technique, efficient crampon use and solid high-mountain experience.
Accommodation options are varied and flexible. Depending on the program, we can stay in high-altitude huts such as the Monte Rosa hut, Gnifetti hut, Mantova hut or Quintino Sella (Felice Giordano) hut. It is also possible to base the program in the valley, staying in a hotel in Gressoney, Alagna or Champoluc, and organize day tours from there.
All itineraries are led by an IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guide from Chamonix Vertical and are adapted to snow conditions, weather and the level of the group, ensuring a safe, progressive and immersive ski touring experience in one of the Alps’ great high-mountain playgrounds.
